The Guessing Game Is On

UIL reclassification underway; announcement set for February

Every two years, the UIL reclassifies every school under their jurisdiction. This is the year it happens for the next two years. The format is this. On Oct. 31, every school must turn in their enrollment to the UIL. These numbers will hold up until the next count in two years.

That first step has occurred and now interested individuals are busy guessing who will be in who’s district and what classification each will be in. One good change is that instead of districts being assigned by enrollment that puts them in Division 1 or 2 only, districts will be assigned and then teams will be put in the proper division after district play is complete as is presently done in class 6A. Many of the smaller schools were put in districts that caused them to travel long distances. For example, my hometown of Rogers was put in districts that included Johnson City, Comfort and Randolph with Rogers being 95 miles from Dripping Springs.

Sometime in late November or early December, the UIL will announce the limits of the enrollment in each classification. That will heighten the guessing game as to what teams will be in each district. The guessing game will be over early in February when the UIL announces the teams in each district and the schedules are completed.

Although the UIL is known to throw curve balls on common sense decisions in that area, the probability is Dripping Springs will be in the same district. A team could be added if Anderson moves up or they choose to add Hays Johnson to make an even number.
