The football district with the Austin teams in it is definitely a have and have not district. Dripping Springs, Lake Travis and Westlake only have to go through the three to find out where they will land in the playoffs. Otherwise their other games are noncompetitive. Bowie is usually the best of the rest.
That was the situation as the Tigers took on the Austin Maroons. Just like the Akins game, the Tigers took it to the Maroons and scored on almost every possession to put the game away early.
The Tigers would score twice in the first quarter. First Chase Ames would hook up with Cooper Reid for a 36 TD and Ian French added the EP. Following an interception by Major Bettridge, the same combination was good from the 25. Colten Tripp swiped his pass but the 48FG attempt by French was wide right. Gage De Los Santos also intercepted a pass that led to the first TD in the second.
Two more scores in the second. The Ames-Reid combo was good for a 27TD. Merrick Bloomgren got in on the feast with a two yard toss by Ames. The final drive of the half was thwarted by a fumble at the 11.
The third quarter was productive as well. Ames would hit James Montgomery for 82 and 48 scores, Ames would get in on the opposite way to score as he took it in from the three. 49-0.
The fourth quarter showed our second team was almost as good as their first team. Logan Keim would hit Dodge Reid on a short pass and let Dodge use his speed and skills do the rest on the 59 journey to separate their two late scores. 56-13.
Friday night the Tigers will host the Bowie Bulldogs. The kickoff will be at 7:30. Prior to it, at 7:00, the 1975 Tiger championship team will be introduced and honored for their accomplishment.
