City to host unveiling ceremony for next set of Star sculptures

Ten new star sculptures will add more creative sparkle to the City of Dripping Springs after their unveiling ceremony, which will be held Oct. 8 at 6:00 p.m. at Dripping Springs Ranch Park. The artists will be on hand to share the inspiration behind their designs.

“We are excited to unveil the next round of stars, designed by local artists, that will turn our parks and other areas of our city into an outdoor art gallery and bring awareness to the beautiful night sky that the Hill Country is famous for,” said Pam King, Tourism Manager for the Visitors Bureau. “

Following the unveiling, the stars will be placed at city parks and sponsoring businesses for the public to enjoy. This is the second round for Stars of Dripping Springs, a city-wide public art initiative organized by the City of Dripping Springs, Destination Dripping Springs, and the Dripping Springs Art League.

“Through these star sculptures, our goal is to not only showcase the immense talent of our local artists, but also to inspire a sense of awe and connection among residents and visitors alike,” King said.

The Stars of Dripping Springs public art project began in 2024 with the unveiling of six star sculptures along historic Mercer Street. This year, ten new stars will be added, each telling a unique story tied to themes such as the night sky, Dripping Springs culture, Texas history, music and film, and the natural beauty of the Hill Country.

The Dripping Springs Art League partners with the City to select the designs and artists for the display. This year, there were 47 entries by 25 artists. Each artist was able to submit up to 5 designs. Ten artists were selected to create this year’s stars.

“The Stars of Dripping Springs project reflects exactly what our art community is all about - creativity, storytelling, and a deep connection to this place we call home,” said Jennifer Friedman of the Dripping Springs Art League. “We are grateful for our partnership with the City and thrilled that this project gives artists a chance to shine while also enriching the lives of everyone who experiences these sculptures.”

To bring the full visionary project to life, the City sought partnerships from businesses and organizations that share a commitment to art, culture, and community enrichment. Sponsors for the 2025 round include H-E-B, Flying Fish Swim Academy, Ally Medical, and Deep Eddy Vodka Tasting Room.

“We are so thankful for the support of our sponsors,” King said. “Their generosity makes it possible for us to expand this project, and their partnership underscores how much our community values art and creativity.”

Dripping Springs was the first city in Texas to be designated an International Dark Sky Community, and was only the sixth worldwide when they received the honor in 2014. The stars highlight that distinction and showcase Dripping Springs as a beautiful place to live, work and visit, King said.
