The normal formula for having a successful homecoming game is to pick an opponent that you should easily defeat, which allows all the players to see game action. The coaches know there will be a large crowd filled with exes, parents, relatives and friends all wanting to see someone in particular play in the game. They did not come to see theirs walk up and down the sidelines with all the other reserves. It was all good as the Tigers took down Austin Akins 63-0 and Coach Zimmerman was able to start substituting in the second quarter.
It did not take long to determine Akins 40 did not compare with the Tigers 4-0. The Tigers kicked off and Akins moved the ball enough to try a 40 FG. Malachi Igharo and Colten Tripp stormed in to jump up and block the kick. It bounced up to Tripp and it was off to the races with Igharo breaking in front to provide protection, taking out the last tackler at the five as Tripp went in to complete the 69 return. Ian French added his toe. 7-0. Later in the quarter Chase Ames hit Cooper Reid for a 53TD pass. 14-0.
Scores continued to rain down on the Eagles in the second quarter as the Tigers scored four times. Ames hit James Montgomery for ten, then Jaceton Gotta sprinted in from the eleven. Next Ames to Montgomery was good from eleven and then Logan Keim hit Will Foreman for 24 score. 42-0 at the half.
The coaches agreed to a restricted running clock for the second half. Frank Accetta got the third quarter score on a six run. Jack Miller kicked the EP. Later Pete Fredenburg flipped a short pass to Dodge Reid and he expertly used his speed and moves to weave his way 61 yards to the endzone. Santiago Reyes bulled his way in from the three for the final score.
Friday night the Tigers will travel to Burger Center for a game with Austin High. Kickoff will be at 7:30.
