Dripping Springs registered their second shutout of the young season to up their record to 4-0. Five TDs came through the air. Now the second season gets underway. District play will begin Friday night as the Tigers host Austin Akins with a 7:30 kickoff. It will also be the Homecoming game which guarantees a week of activities for old and new.

Up until 1968, Dripping Springs was strong rivals in all sports with Buda and Kyle, and this began back in the 1920s. In 1968, the two schools, plus Wimberley, voted to consolidate and formed Hays Consolidated ISD. That made them a little larger than Dripping Springs so the football rivalry did not start back up until 1972. They would be larger and a couple of years we would be in the same district. Dripping Springs would drop them from the schedule in 1980 with a 1-7 record. The 1973 team would inflict the lone loss with a 20-6 homecoming victory. Schedules have just not worked out and the Tigers are 4-10 lifetime. When Johnson came aboard it was hoped there would be a rivalry there but it has not been realized to date with the Tigers holding a 6-0 edge. Wimberley would later opt out of the consolidation and form their own school district.

On Friday night, the Tigers dominated completely. The Jaguars was another of those teams that would try to run more, pass less. The Tiger defense just makes a living out of those situations. The Tiger offense complimented the defense by scoring on every possession. It was a long night for the Jaguars. No running clock.

Dripping Springs kicked off to the Jaguars and they would make a couple of first downs before having to turn over the ball to the Tigers. Jaceton Gotta had one of those moments where if you don’t succeed you try, try again. He broke on a run for over 60 yards for an apparent score, only to have it called back on a penalty. Just a few minutes later he would break for 41. Ian French was true as usual. 7-0. A short time later, Chase Ames would connect with James Montgomery for a 63 pass. 14-0.

The Tigers would pick up the pace in the second with three scores. Ames would sneak it in from the two. 21-0. Ames then would turn to Merrik Bloomgren for a 46 pass to score. 28-0. Finally Ames would find Bobby Wilkinson on the five and he would break tackles to force his way into the endzone to complete the 25 play. 35-0 at half.

The second half did not get any better for Johnson as scores would continue to pile up. Cooper Reid would get in on the action in the third with a four yard TD catch. 42-0. Later in the fourth, the same combination of Ames to Reid worked for the score. Reid would highlight the score when he executed a one-handed grab before stepping into the endzone. It covered 19 yards. 49-0.

Nate Martinez would close the door on any chance the Jaguars would score with an interception. Ian French honed his kicking results with a 41 yard FG. 52-0 Final score.
