In August, Southern Sweets Candy Company held a ribbon cutting for its new brick-and-mortar location on Old Fitzhugh. The event was attended by a large group of family, friends and supporters, as well as representatives from the Chamber of Commerce.
“Southern Sweets started with our now famous candy kabobs,” said co-owner Paige Powell. “We wanted to create a cute candy gift, but with a twist - and from there the candy kabob was born. It exploded quite quickly, and we soon realized we needed a larger space than our dining tables could provide.”
Powell and coowner Marianne Gibson began searching for a location to work in, but the concept grew, and soon they decided they weren’t just looking for a workspace, but for a place to potentially open a candy shop.
“We noticed that Drip didn’t have a charming candy shop like some surrounding communities, so we added that to what we were looking for in a space,” Powell said. “After about a six month search we found the perfect spot on Old Fitzhugh.”
Southern Sweets Candy Company carries a large selection of kabobs, as well as an assortment of novelty candy, chocolates, gummy mixes, Swedish candy and more.
“We pride ourselves in the fact that you can’t find the candies we offer in our store anywhere else in Dripping Springs,” Powell said. “One goal of our candy store is to be a true place for the community to enjoy. We have different party packages, storytimes, craft classes and events in the works.” Visitors to the shop can also check the “Name of the Day” board, and if their name is up there, they get a free candy kabob. For the latest updates on the store, Powell suggests customers follow the shop on social media.
