Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) is accepting nominations Aug. 11 through Sept. 19 for a new award that honors high school athletes who are committed to serving their communities on and off the field. The Power Player Award seeks to recognize students who exemplify sportsmanship and the cooperative difference by exhibiting traits of leadership, dedication to their craft, and concern for community.
“From balancing practices, homework, volunteering, and fundraising, these athletes are busy and driven,” said Mikayla Herron PEC Community Outreach Specialist. “They lead and inspire in the classroom and on the field and bring out the best in their peers and their community. We want to recognize their efforts, sportsmanship, and achievements.”
PEC’s Power Player Award is one of several the cooperative gives out each year through its community engagement programs. Other awards include PEC’s Teacher Spotlight and the Community Transformer Awards. Collectively, these awards highlight the importance of PEC’s values and celebrate members who give back and strengthen their communities.
The deadline to nominate a high school athlete for PEC’s Power Player Award is Sept. 19. To be eligible, nominees must attend high school within or surrounded by PEC’s service area. PEC will announce winners and publicly recognize them this fall.
