More than 8,800 students from around the area headed back to school at Dripping Springs ISD on Aug. 13. The district has one high school, two middle schools, and with the opening of Wildwood Springs Elementary, six elementary campuses.
The construction on Sycamore Springs Middle School (SSMS) was also finished on time for the beginning of the year. The district held a public ribbon cutting ceremony on Aug. 6 to celebrate the expansion.

At the ribbon cutting, DSISD Superintendent Dr. Holly Morris-Kuentz thanked both the architects and the contractors for their work on the expansion, and for keeping everything on track. She also thanked the district teams.
“Our construction team, our facilities team, our technology team, our campus staff and our custodial crews have all been an important part of helping this project get over the finish line,” Morris-Kuentz said. “Our teams have gone above beyond to get this space for kids on August 13th, and that doesn’t go unnoticed.”
SSMS Principal Kelly Miller addressed the crowd as well.
“We’re so excited that this moment is finally here,” Miller said. “Sycamore Springs Middle School was originally built to serve 850 students, and today heading into the 2025-2026 school year, we are at 1,077 and rising every day.”
She said that with the expansion, the school’s capacity is now 1200 students.
“We now have the ability to better serve kids through much needed classrooms, improved science labs, more collaborative spaces, expanded rooms for fine arts, better building flow, and additional space in the cafeteria,” Miller said.
Dr. Stefani Reinold, Board of Trustees President, thanked the voters for supporting the 2023 bond that enabled the expansion project.
“Schools are a significant investment for taxpayers, and the result of years of careful planning, collaboration and community support,” Reinold said. “We appreciate the trust the taxpayers place in us to deliver projects like this for the students of Dripping Springs ISD. Congratulations to everyone who made this day possible.”
