The Dripping Springs High School softball and baseball teams recently held a joint medal ceremony to honor the teams and coaches for their achievements over the past year.
Softball coach Wade Womack was recognized as being named Softball Head Coach of the Year in all divisions by the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA). Womack has carved out a 319112-2 record at Dripping Springs, which includes 8 district champions, and two runner-ups. With the team’s last victory over Cedar Ridge, Womack reached a career 600 wins.
“There are so many great coaches in the state of Texas. I am humbled and honored to be chosen for this prestigious award,” Womack said. “It's been a great run coaching great kids, and I'm proud that they've bought into our philosophy.”
Also in softball, Paige Shaffer was recognized as THSCA Region 8 Assistant Coach of the Year, and Lorelei Gamble was named THSCA 6A Offensive Player of the Year, All Cen-Tex Defensive Player of the Year and All District MVP. Numerous other players also received All Cen-Tex and All District honors. The softball team advanced to the state semifinals this year, but lost in the series against Kingwood.
For baseball, Coach Payne was named THSCA Region 8 Head Coach of the Year, and Stephen Szkotak was recognized as THSCA Region 8 Assistant Coach of the Year.
Taylor Tracey was recognized as All Cen-Tex player of the year, and as the unanimous All District MVP. Many other players received All Cen-Tex and All District honors. The baseball team also advanced to the state semifinals, losing a hard-fought battle against Kingwood in game 3.
