At the Dripping Springs ISD board meeting on May 19, trustees Olivia Bernard and Tricia Quintero were sworn in for their new terms, a number of high school groups were recognized for their recent achievements, and 18 DSISD retirees were honored for their years of service.
Together, these retirees have a combined total of 328 years in DSISD and 489 years in education. They include Misty Hurlbut from Community Services; Sandy Alvarado, Jenny Koch and Stacy Sauerwein from Dripping Springs Elementary; Lesa Haney and Kris Shmidl from Walnut Springs Elementary; Karen Andrus, Jay Bates and Latreace Hawkins from Dripping Springs High School; Paige Frontera from Dripping Springs Middle School; Robert Spear from Sycamore Springs Middle School; John Grayum and Aurelio Guerrero Zarraga from Facilities and Maintenance; Rhonda Whitman from Learning & Innovation; Patti Breen and Nadine Hogan from Special Services; and James Lappin and Carl Waits from Transportation.
Nine of those employees had worked in the district for more that 20 years, but Waits - who is also the sports writer for the Dripping Springs Century News - had a grand total of 60 years in education, and all of them were in DSISD. To read a Q&A with Waits about his years in the district, see page 6.
