Dripping Springs High School seniors Mia and Trey Pleasant qualified for the UIL State Tennis Tournament after securing third place in mixed doubles at the Region IV-6A Tournament, held May 8-9, at the North East ISD Tennis Center.
The Pleasant duo opened the tournament on Thursday with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Sarah Johnson and Robert Mitchell of Clemens High School. They advanced to the quarterfinals and followed up with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory over Anslee Gunter and Jaden Tilbury of O’Connor.
In Friday’s semifinal, the Tigers fell in a close match to eventual regional champions Arjun Rajan and Lily Wang of Round Rock Westwood, 6-4, 7-5. With a state tournament berth at stake, the duo bounced back, defeating Raffael Giesen-Linssen and Sahasra Gala of Round Rock, 7-5, 6-3, to clinch the final qualifying spot.
The Tigers begin state tournament action on Thursday, May 15, against El Paso Coronado’s Makenzie Baptist and Matteo Uraga in the round of 16. The match is set for 11:00 a.m. at the Northside ISD Tennis Center in San Antonio.
