The Hays County Commissioners Court held discussion and approved some shifting of county office staff to make space in the Hays County Historic Courthouse for a new position, the County Administrator, once hired.
The County Administrator is meant to act as a middle man between the department heads and the commissioners, relaying messages and requests to all of the commissioners and the judge — instead of having to reach out to each individually. Making space for the County Administrator will also involve the relocation of the Veterans Counseling Services Department within the same building.
Tammy Crumley, Hays County countywide operations director, said she was asked to find a location for the new county administrator once that position is filled.
“I was only able to find a location here at the courthouse,” Crumley said, adding that Hays County Veterans Services Officer Jude Prather agreed to shift his staff around so that there would be space for the new position. “In order to allow him not to have everyone in that front office, his main office, they would need to occupy what they’re currently using as their counseling service room. So they would need to move those services back up to this office, [which is another space in the Hays County Historic Courthouse].”
Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra commended the recommendation.
“The position of that old Commissioner Pct. 3 office is ideal for the County Administrator. It’s got a reception spot for the admin,” Becerra said. “It’s perfect.”
Prather added that they would “make it work.”
Crumley recommended retrieving each of the keys from the staff so that the county doesn’t have to pay to get the office re-keyed.
The item was approved unanimously.
