Texas grocery retailer H-E-B opened its third new store in 2023, located on the former site of the Nutty Brown Café & Amphitheater at Country Road 163 and US Highway 290.

H-E-B submitted plans to build the 1 03,000-square-foot store in March 2021, having purchased the 65-acre property in 2015. After a year of construction, the Nutty Brown H-E-B store opened with a presentation and ribbon cutting on July 5. H-E-B store management and staff were present in addition to local leaders, including Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra, Hays County Commissioner Walt Smith, Dripping Springs Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Susan Kimball and Dripping Springs ISD Board of Trustees President Mary Jane Hetrick, PhD.

The Nutty Brown Café & Amphitheater closed its Dripping Springs location in 2021. Taking over the vacated land, the new H-E-B store was designed to commemorate its predecessor with iconography and memorabilia from the iconic music venue, including signed guitars from legendary Texas musicians. This commemorative spirit was alive and well at the ribbon cutting, which offered a guitarshaped and sized cake to attendees.
