Keller Williams RED Day is a special day each year for Keller Williams real estate agents to give back to the community. In Dripping Springs, this year’s day of service was dedicated to the Hill Country Cottages for Senior Citizens.

RED Day — which stands for Renew, Energize and Donate Day — is an international initiative dedicated to celebrating Keller Williams Realty’s year-round commitment to improving local communities. Each year on the second Thursday in May, tens of thousands of associates from across the United States and Canada, as well as families abroad, participate in a wide range of projects, devoting their time to renewing and energizing aspects of the neighborhoods in which they serve.

“RED Day initiatives run the gamut,” local agent Judy Green explained, “from rebuilding homes, refurbishing local parks, giving to local food shelters, hosting blood drives, beautifying beaches and so much more. Projects are chosen by each individual market center based on a need they see within its community.”

Green recently visited the Hill Country Cottages with fellow Keller Williams agent Gary Steele. Both decided the location would be the perfect spot for their annual service project.

“The apartment manager, Bridgitte Hurlbut, had been walking the premises accessing what needed to be done, wondering how it would all get done — and out of her budget,” Steel explained. “I had seen her walking around before we knew she was the person to talk to. When we introduced ourselves and our purpose of being there, she said, ‘This is phenomenal,’ and ‘a godsend.’ She said as we walked in, her prayers were answered.”

Green, Steele and the rest of the local Keller Williams team headed out to the Hill Country Cottages on May 11 for a morning and afternoon of outdoor cleanup, tidying up the landscape around the cottages.

“A lot of this hadn’t been touched since the ice storm earlier this year,” Steel explained onsite. “There were limbs everywhere and dead shrubs that needed to be replaced. This is where people live their day-today lives, and I’m just glad we’re able to brighten up their living space.”

Together, the team picked up trash and debris, trimmed trees and dug up and replanted bushes along with miscellaneous tasks around the premises.
