Maxine Hawkes Pursley

Maxine Hawkes Pursley of Dripping Springs, Texas, passed away July 10th, 2018. Mrs. Pursley was born on September 19, 1923 in Ridge Texas. She spent her early years in South Texas and later, when a teenager, moved to Austin. She graduated from Austin High in May, 1940 and was married to Robert Pursley in June 1940, a marriage that lasted for sixty-six years until his death in 2006.

Mrs. Pursley began her family life as a homemaker and in 1956 began a twenty-nine year career with the Texas Department of Public Safety. While they raised three children, Robert and Maxine were active members of Ridgetop Baptist Church in Austin, where she taught Sunday School and was especially beloved by her young adult’s classes. She sang in the choir, led women's missionary circles, and cheerfully took on other responsibilities as they were presented to her. After retirement, Robert and Maxine moved to the family ranch near Dripping Springs. With her husband, Maxine became active in the First Baptist Church and for several years she was a Sunday School teacher with the church's Stonebridge Ministry, an outreach to elder care facilities.

While Maxine loved serving the church, she was most devoted to her family, which for her included the entire large extended Pursley family. In the last years of her life, Maxine became the cherished Pursley matriarch and she will be fondly remembered by all.

Maxine Pursley is survived by daughter Betty Pursley Clark of Naples, Florida; son Bob Pursley of Dripping Springs, and son Roy Pursley and his wife Gwenda of Dripping Spring; and also by ten grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and three great great children.

Visitation was held at Harrell Funeral Home, 100 Heritage Drive and Hwy 290, Dripping Springs 6-8PM Sunday July 15 2018. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist of Dripping Springs, on Monday July 16, 2018 at 10 AM, with interment at Pursley Cemetery following the service.
